1700 – 1825 Merchant City
The area covered is that of the old city, largely rebuilt after the great fires of 1652 and 1677, and the “Merchant City”: the 18th century expansion along Trongate and Argyle Street. Only a few locations are included north of the Cathedral, south of the Clyde, west of the St Enoch’s Burn at the approximate line of West Nile Street, and east of Calton Entry.
