Description

The Tollcross Burial Ground dates from 1806, and although the church building was destroyed following a 1990 fire, the burial ground remains a significant historic site, now enclosed within Tollcross Cemetery. Many headstones are weathered, fallen, or obscured, but the Society’s volunteers recorded every legible stone—over 2,000 in total—and transcribed each inscription with meticulous detail.

The Burial Ground volume includes a brief history and description of Tollcross Burial Ground, detailed Tollcross Burial Ground gravestone plans and lairs, Surname Indexes for both the burial ground wall and the Burial Ground itself, full transcriptions of headstones and monumental inscriptions, and photographs of selected gravestone.

The Tollcross Cemetery is a modern cemetery adjacent to the Tollcross Burial Ground. The Cemetery volume includes a brief description of Tollcross Cemetery; Tollcross Cemetery Gravestone Plan; Photographs giving context of Churchyard; Surname Index to Tollcross Cemetery; and Tollcross Cemetery Monumental Inscriptions.
