Sir Thomas M Devine, Kt OBE FBA FRSE FRSA FRHistS, is a Scottish academic and historian. His main research interest is the history of Scotland since c. 1600 and its global connections and impact. He is regarded as the leading authority on the history of modern Scotland and its diaspora.

He is famed around the world for ‘To the Ends of the Earth: Scotland’s Global Diaspora, 1750-2010’ published in 2012; his latest publication is ‘The Scottish Clearances: A History of the Dispossessed, 1600-1900’

Sir Thomas is the Society’s new Honorary President and this will be his inaugural address.
