SAFHS Reciprocal Access

Glasgow & West of Scotland Family History Society (GWSFHS) is a member of the Scottish Association of Family History Societies (SAFHS).

As a current member of GWSFHS, you may visit libraries/research centres run by other SAFHS member societies, on the same terms as their own members, which usually means free access. Likewise, members of other SAFHS member societies may visit our premises in Partick free of charge.

Please note that this reciprocation is for occasional visits, and if you become a ‘weel-kent face’ in their library, then please join their society (as well as ours, of course).  They too need to pay for their rent, insurance and electricity.

Not all member societies have libraries.  Before you visit a library, please check their website or contact them for current opening hours.

When you visit a library, they may ask you to show them proof of your current membership of GWSFHS.  GWSFHS, in common with some other societies, has discontinued printed membership cards.  We did not include membership cards in the October 2022 issue of our Journal.  To show evidence of your current GWSFHS membership, we suggest that you show them your My Subscription page in the My Account section of our website (on a mobile device or printed).  This page should state that your subscription status is ‘Active’.

SAFHS Member Societies

Please note that the list of members at https://www.safhs.org.uk/members.php is not current (as at 23 October 2022).  The Society of Genealogists is no longer a member of SAFHS.  Please note too that the Dumfries & Galloway Family History Society is not a member of SAFHS.
