Search requests in any of the above should include as much information as possible: surname, forename, age, parents’, children’s or siblings’ names and ages.  Please include return postage, large envelope and a suggested donation of at least:-

  • 2 UK Pounds per surname (members)
  • 2 UK Pounds per surname (non-members).

* Please be aware that a lot of the ages in the 1841 Census were rounded down. Also most ages are shown in multiples of 5 years.

1851 Census Index

Volunteers have compiled a surname index to the 1851 Census for the following parishes :-

Lanarkshire

Glasgow City, Barony, Gorbals and Govan (these are available on microfiche and CD ROM see publications). The remainder of Lanarkshire, out-with the Glasgow area has been indexed by Des Garrity and is also available on CD ROM.

Ayrshire all parishes

Renfrewshire all parishes

Dunbartonshire all parishes

Stirlingshire - Campsie

For a search of this index in any of the above areas, please send a large envelope, return postage and a donation to the Society per surname. The suggested amount would be 2 UK pounds per surname plus postage from Society Members or 4 UK pounds per surname plus postage from Non Members. Download Order Form

Please include as much information as possible about the family/families you are looking for, e.g. surname, forenames, ages, parents, children's or siblings' names and ages and county. 1861 Census Index

We now have the County and National Indexes for the whole of Scotland, England, and Wales. Requests for searches of these indexes should be accompanied by a large envelope, return postage and a donation to the Society of:-

  • 2 UK Pounds per family group per county (members)
  • 4 UK Pounds for non-members.

1901 Census Index

We now have a searchable index for the 1901 census for all Scotland and the full 1901 census on microfilm for the former Strathclyde area.

Search requests should include as much information as possible: surname, forename, age, parents’, children’s or siblings’ names and ages.  Please include return postage, large envelope and donation of at least:-

  • 2 UK pounds per surname (members)
  • 4 UK pounds per surname (non-members) .
